Service Description

Our full day courses are aimed at developing both beginner and intermediate skillsets. The course runs from 10am-4pm with a break for lunch. What is covered: Beginner: For those who have never thrown on the wheel before or need to learn the basics, this session will cover clay preparation, centring the clay and understanding and developing basic forms. At the end of the day you will have learn't how to make two different shapes of bowl and contemporary jugs. Choosing your three favourites which you will then be able to decorate with underglaze colour. Any additional pots you would like firing are charged at £5 each. Intermediate: Completed our beginner class and want to further develop your love for pottery? Then this is perfect for you. The intermediate throwing workshop will take you to the next level, learning new skills and building on the foundations of throwing. As an intermediate you will learn how to throw lidded vessels, creating forms with galleries (a step in the rim of the pot). This will involve taking accurate measurements with callipers to ensure the fits correctly. If you have already covered this technique we can tailor the day to suit your requirements of learning or areas that you need to develop. At the end of the day you will have produced two lidded vessels which will then be decorated with underglaze colour. Any additional pots you would like firing are charged at £5 each. Post lesson your pots will be dried out in our studio before going through a double firing process. The first firing process is the biscuit firing to 1000oc before being glazed with a food safe, lead-free glaze and fired again to 1120oc. Your bowl will be ready to collect in approximately 2-3 weeks after your lesson. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: There are a maximum of 5 spaces per workshop to keep tuition directed, meaning they book up quickly. So be sure to book well in advance. ​ Refreshments will be provided but you will need to bring a packed lunch. Please ensure you turn up to the course on time.
